Heritage & Endangered Breeds (member ALBC)

Much research has been conducted in recent years to determine thehealth of specific livestock breeds. A primary source of information on this subject is the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy. In addition to breeding, raising and selling endangered and heritage breeds, we feed only certified organic feed.

Our hatchery experience began in the 1930's with a turkey ranch in the high country outside Frazier Park, CA. After nearly 50 years of hatchery operations Mr. & Mrs. Fred Schaefer retired to the Yachats area. Their daughter and her husband Mr. & Mrs. Ed Foff began to operating the yachats Valley Hatchery in the 1980's. Yachats Valley Haatchery is now owned and operated by Mr. & Mrs. Derek Prince, under the guidance of Mrs. Schaefer and Mrs. Fogg. We are proud of our hatchery heritage, and we take pride in offering high quality poultry for a third generation.

Heritage Breeds In Crisis

Upon making the decision to re-open Yachats Valley hatchery, re researched the breeds which we had grown up with. Much to our dismay, many of the most popular breeds of the past have become seriously in danger of extinction. We have attempted to focus our energies on building up breeding stock of some of the most endangered breeds, while taking into consideration the unique growing conditions of the Pacific Northwest. We will continue to add breeds to our flocks in order to perpetuate the recovery of these fascinating and wonderful creatures.
